**Updated 5/7/19 information on announced import tariffs

**UPDATED 5/7/2019**

May 7th, 2019

The Trump Administration has indicated it will implement the 2nd tranche of tariffs on Chinese imports on 5/10/2018. The tariff rate is expected to be an additional 15% and does affect most flooring & window covering products imported from China.

If the administration moves forward, many if not all our suppliers will implement the increases on the initial effective date. AFB will have no choice but to pay the tariff increases and pass the additional costs through to our clients beginning on or near the tariff effective date.

We will continue to keep you updated through our sales team as we learn more on the situation. We appreciate you, your business and your continued support.

With warmest regards,

**12/3/2018 UPDATE**

December 3rd, 2018

Dear Valued Client

The US government has announced a 90-day delay in imposing the 2nd tranche of tariffs totaling an additional 15% on flooring products imported from China. According to a statement from the administration, “President Trump has agreed that on January 1, 2019, he will leave the tariffs on $200 billion worth of product at the 10 percent rate, and not raise it to 25 percent at this time.”

Over the next 90 days, beginning 12/1, US officials will continue to negotiate lingering trade disagreements between the two countries. The statement further adds, “Both parties agree that they will endeavor to have this transaction completed within the next 90 days. If at the end of this period of time, the parties are unable to reach an agreement, the 10 percent tariffs will be raised to 25 percent.”

We will keep you updated as we learn more.

With warmest regards,

**9/24/2018 UPDATE**

September 24th, 2018

Dear Valued Client,

The US government has announced tariffs on a wide array of products imported from China. Effective Monday, September 24th, 2018, flooring products manufactured in China including plank, laminate, tile and wood flooring will be subject to a 10% tariff. On January 1st, 2019, the tariff will increase to 25%.

Industry suppliers will be increasing prices accordingly starting on the tariff effective dates, and AFB has no choice but to pay the tariff increases. Furthermore, the flooring industry is experiencing unprecedented manufacturing and freight increases for carpet, pad and hard surface products.

We are working diligently to get a clearer picture on the situation so that we can share accurate pricing information so you can plan accordingly. We will update you through our sales team as we navigate this difficult situation. We appreciate you, your business and your continued support.

**ORIGINAL RELEASE TO ALL AFB CLIENTS**

September 11, 2018

Dear Valued Client,

We want to update you on the highly publicized potential of a 25% tariff on a wide range of flooring products imported from China and sold in the United States. These tariffs have the potential to dramatically impact the pricing of products including luxury vinyl tile (LVT), ceramic tile & stone, hardwood and various other flooring products.

Since the likelihood of tariffs being applied is real, we want to inform you so that you can plan accordingly. The comment period for these tariffs ended on September 6, 2018.  We are now waiting for the administration to announce their decision as to items included and the effective date.

If the administration moves forward, many if not all our suppliers will implement the increases as soon as the initial effective date of the tariff. AFB will have no choice but to pay the tariff increases and pass the additional costs through to our clients beginning on or near the tariff effective date.

While we are exploring alternate options, we believe products not manufactured in China will experience extreme supply issues due to an expected immediate shift in demand to these products. We will continue to keep you updated through our sales team as we learn more on the situation. We appreciate you, your business and your continued support.

With warmest regards,

Denny Thostrud
